When loading a dishwasher, it is important to not block the flow of water to the top rack. Consider hand-washing pots or running them in a separate load.
This can happen when you have used dish soap (Dawn) instead of dish detergent. It can also happen when you prewash and do not rinse thoroughly.
To remove the suds, add a couple tablespoons of any cooking oil to the dishwasher and run a cycle. Depending on the amount of dish soap added, you may need to repeat the process.
- The easiest way to keep your glass-top stove clean is by wiping down the surface after each use. Ideally, you’ll want to use a microfiber cloth or sponge moistened with vinegar or water, and never a scouring pad or scrub brush. Unfortunately, this can only be done once the surface is no longer hot, and by that time, many cooks have moved on to serving or eating.
- If you’ve forgotten to wipe down your stove and are dealing with stuck-on stains, you’ll need a more thorough cleaning technique. Once the stovetop is cool, use white vinegar to spray the surface. Next, generously sprinkle baking soda over the vinegar. Place a clean towel, soaked in hot water and wrung out, over the vinegar/baking soda mix. Let this mixture work its magic for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the towel and wipe away the residue with a microfiber cloth. Spray more vinegar and use a fresh microfiber cloth to polish away any streaks.
- For a deeper clean, there are many specialty products made for glass top stoves. Weiman glass cook top cleaner and polish is an excellent choice. Bar Keepers Friend Multipurpose Cooktop Cleaner is another excellent choice. There are also many informative videos on YouTube to help with those especially tough stains.
If your refrigerator and freezer isn’t cold enough, you can adjust your temperature with the thermostat knob.
Blocking the air flow in or out of your freezer can cause temperature fluctuations, and that’s not good! Make sure to leave a few inches of space around the air vent on all sides to make sure air is flowing freely.
A good rule of thumb is to leave 2 inches of space on the back wall of the Refrigerator and Freezer to allow for proper air flow.
Check that the “Fan” setting on your thermostat is set to the “Auto” position. When your thermostat is in the “On” position, your fan will always run.
If air conditioning or heat will not come on, or the digital display on your thermostat is not working, try replacing the batteries.
- Gently remove the front cover of your thermostat.
- Locate and replace batteries.
- Replace the front cover.
Your bathrooms and kitchen are equipped with GCFI outlets which may need to be “reset”. To do this, push in the top button until it clicks.
You may need to reset your breaker. Open your breaker box door and look for the breaker on which the switch lever has shifted away from the ON position. It likely will be the only one with a lever that is not pointing in the same direction as the other breakers.
Push the breaker lever fully to the OFF position then back to the ON position. You will feel resistance in the lever, followed by a distinct clicking sound or sensation as the breaker clicks to the ON position.
Check to see if power has been restored.
Gently lift the cover off your tank and set to the side.
The water in the tank is CLEAN water. Reach your hand into the tank and push the flapper down. This will stop the flow of water into your bowl.
Grasp the chrome top of your stopper and turn counterclockwise until it comes off.
Fish out the hair clog with a bent wire or other tool. Run water through the bathroom sink drain and replace the stopper.
With the stopper in the raised position, grasp the top nut of your stopper and turn counterclockwise until it comes off. Pull the stopper off.

- Grip the aerator with your hand and unthread it to the left to remove it from the end of the faucet spout being careful not to drop any parts down the drain.
- Use your little finger or a small screwdriver to check inside the faucet spout for any parts that may be stuck inside.
- Disassemble the aerator, using a toothpick or paperclip, taking note of how the parts go together. Rinse off any large pieces of sediment.
- Soak the screen and other aerator parts (as needed) in vinegar to dissolve mineral deposits (scale).
- Rinse, reassemble, and reattach the aerator.
